It has been three years since they were rejected on TV’s Dragons’ Den, but last week, Theo Paphitis had nothing but praise for party mask company, Mask-arade.
At a glittering ceremony at the London O2, the TV Dragon presented the Warwickshire based company with the Smarta100 ‘Best Use of Resources’ award and the prize of £1000 worth of insurance. Paphitis said, “ I have known these guys since they appeared on Dragons’ Den. They have tremendous passion and enthusiasm for their masks and I congratulate them on this Smarta100 award, which is very well deserved. With new fully licensed products in the pipeline, I fully expect Mask-arade to be major players in the party and events industry for many years to come.”
The awards recognise the Top 100 most innovative and entrepreneurial companies in the UK and the judges were blown away by Mask-arade’s success story. “The UK has fallen into a double-dip recession and economic growth is slowing, but that hasn’t stopped Mask-arade punching above their weight. This company has operated on a shoestring and turned tiny resources into big results. A simple product, an innovative growth strategy and a whopping turnover.”
Since forming the company in 2008, Mask-arade has gone from strength to strength; as well as celebrating their latest award success, the Three Maskateers, Ray Duffy, Chris O’Nyan and Dean Walton are really excited about the future. Duffy said, “We have recently obtained the two hottest licenses in the country – One Direction and Moshi Monsters, a full range of products including our ever-popular masks will be in the shops before Christmas.” He added, “To be recognised as one of the most innovative companies in the UK is the icing on the cake on what has been another fantastic year.”
